Florida's Pioneering African-American Town is fighting to preserve black ownership as gentrification threatens to push black community members out.

Eatonville was established in 1887, making it the oldest black-incorporated municipality in the United States. Eatonsville was the first town successfully established by once-enslaved people.

Eatonville is also the hometown of Zora Neale Hurston and became a significant influence on her works.

We have N.Y. Nathiri, the Executive Director of the Association to Preserve the Eatonville Community, to discuss how the Eatonville Community is working to promote Eatonville's cultural and historical heritage in hopes of keeping the town from losing its heritage.
